Three releases Android 4.0 for the Sony Xperia S

Three has started rolling out Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) to its Sony Xperia S customers, following the update's SIM free release in the UK last week.

The mobile operator told The INQUIRER that it has become the first network to start rolling out the ICS update to Sony's flagship smartphone, and said that the upgrade is available to download now by hooking the phone up to your PC.

Three said, "There won't be any push notification alerting customers to the update - the update is via PC Companion only."

Once installed, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich gives the Sony Xperia S a raft of new features. Chief amongst these is an application bundle from Sony, including Walkman, Album and Movies. These offer users a reworked music app, a new photo viewing gallery and an enhanced music player, respectively.

Other tweaks include a revamped lock screen, resizable home screen widgets, a recent apps menu and improved control of mobile data.

We asked Sony if the Xperia S will also get upgraded to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, but the firm said it has no word on this yet.
